President’s Message May 2020

Well, finally some good news in the golf world…we can officially open the golf course on Saturday May 16th!!
We have been anticipating this for some time now and we are excited to finally get golfing at Blue for the 2020 season. I want to thank all of you for your patience during this unique time and I can tell you that the course is in great shape and I know that staff are eager to have you all back and help wherever possible.
Today, Premier Ford announced that, along with other businesses and facilities, golf courses can open, but as most of you are aware, this will be far from the normal routine at BMGCC.
We have been in contact with the different golf associations and following the guidelines from the government, have come up with rules and protocols that must be followed while golfing this year. These guidelines can be modified throughout the golf season should we get more clearance from the government and health authorities. Click here to view a copy of the BMGCC Covid-19 Member Rules and Protocols.
I know that these regulations may seem stringent, and they are, however the health and safety of our members and staff are our top priority. We will continue our increased sanitation efforts around the club, but please note there will be limited access to our clubhouse facilities.
One of the items outlined in the Covid-19 Rules and Protocols is around public and guest play. Based on the new tee time intervals of 10 minutes, we have decided not to allow outside play at this time to ensure we have the maximum number of tee times available for our active members. This was not an easy decision, but we felt it necessary at this time. This new interval was not a BMGCC decision, but us adhering to the rules imposed by the government. Our hope is that as the summer goes on, the intervals will become smaller and we will revisit our guest playing privileges starting June 1st .
Other key protocols that are in-force to start the golf season include:
We have brought in 14 additional carts to help with the single rider ruling. We know that some days cart availability will be a challenge but will do our best to accommodate everyone. Seasonal cart payments or pay as you go are both offered, but please note, that both options do not guarantee that a cart will be available. Obtaining the additional carts was not easy, but we wanted to ensure we had options for our members.
These changes will be a learning curve for all of us. We ask you to familiarize yourself with the new rules and regulations and be kind to your fellow members who may forget the odd one in the early stages. We hope that as the golf season forges ahead, that we will be able to adjust these guidelines wherever possible.
Although this will not be a regular golf season, we are happy that we are at least open for our members to enjoy. We will continue to keep you update on changes as they arise.
Let us hope Mother Nature continues to co-operate and we can all enjoy the Club this summer.
All the best and stay safe!
